Komyo Reiki is the name of the school of Reiki,
an energetic healing system, founded by Hyakuten
Inamoto. Inamoto-sensei is a Jodo-shu Buddhist monk who lives in Kyoto, Japan.
His style tries to be as true to the original Reiki Ryoho (Reiki system) as conceived by Mikao
Usui, its founder. This energy system has the
same lineage, coming from Usui-sensei through Hayashi-sensei to Mrs. Yamaguchi to Inamoto-sensei. the protocol is a little different with more emphasis on the spiritual and a Japanese way of doing things.
Reiki has become better known in the west in the last 25 years with many schools teaching similar systems. It heals holistically: spirit, mind and body. Efficacious in complement with allopathic medicine or alone. This method can be learned to be applied to oneself or practiced on others as a therapeutic modality. It is an art, a discipline and a way of life which brings peace and balance to the individual.
Applied to everyday life it can keep you grounded, calm, happy and healthy. Inner peace (anshin ritsumei) comes with practice, which heals on all levels.
Why Reiki?
People come to a Reiki practitioner for a variety of reasons, some of which could be as serious as cancer, chronic pain, psychological or emotional issues or simply to relax from a stressful lifestyle. It does not replace conventional medical care, however, it is an excellent complementary therapy to conventional methods.
It is not a belief system. Reiki is also preventive, keeping you balanced and offsetting negative effects. Treatment requires the person, wearing comfortable loose clothing, to lie on a massage table for roughly an hour while the practitioner's hands are lightly placed on various parts of the body. At the end of the hour the person feels relaxed and pain, if there was any, is usually diminished or gone. As treatments become more frequent there will be a sense of well-being as the body becomes more balanced and the mind is at peace.
At this time the person may begin to think in terms of learning the method for their own use,
as well as for family members and close friends. This is one therapy that can be done
on oneself as opposed to having a therapist do it. It becomes a lifestyle, a life-long
discipline that keeps you clear and balanced.
